Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer Review

by

Recently I received two products from Rimmel London via Influenster for review.  One of the products was the Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner in Starlit Black.

About the Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer {as told by Rimmel}:

Glide-on full color definition! Soft creamy texture in a retractable pencil with built-in smudger for subtle blending and sharpener for high precision line Waterproof formula for up to 10 hours long lasting wear Choose your shade from creamy matte to high metallic, all so intensely pigmented Dermatologist & ophthalmologist tested

The Product’s Packaging:

The packaging of this eye liner is pretty standard for a drug store product.  I do, however, like that the eyeliner tube itself mimics the actual color of the eyeliner.  For instance, the tube of the eyeliner I have is a sparkly black whereas the purple color offered in this line has a purple tube.  It makes for quick and easy decision making when applying your makeup in the morning!

I did also appreciate the fact that the liner comes with a built-in sharpener so that even as you twist the crayon up, you can sharpen the point more for when you do not want such a thick eyeliner line.

The Product’s Color and Options:

As mentioned above, I received the color “Starlit Black” to try out but there are 11 different shades in this line.

To be honest, when I first went to use it, I didn’t even realize it had the sparkle in it, I thought it was just a plain black eyeliner!  That was my fault, though, for not paying attention!  However, going to the grocery store with sparkly lids was not what I had envisioned for that day.

You can see the sparkly glitter right in the eyeliner:

A swatch on my arm really reveals the sparkle!

My Experience with the Product:

I was able to give this product seven hours of wear to test it out, but Rimmel does state that it has 10 hour wear.

I would say that it did last very well during the seven hours that I wore it.  I applied it to my upper lash line, tight line, and water line for the full gamut of testing.

I found that the product was a little dry, and therefore tugged at my eyelid as I applied it.  Because of the dryness, it was also a bit crumbly when applying it to my water line.  I suspect, however, that part of the dryness I was experiencing was due to the glitter in the product.  I wish I had either the plain black or nude color that Rimmel offers for this product just to compare, but neither my local Walmart or Walgreens had the plain black or nude options.

In the end, after my seven hour test, I had minimal smudging.  Really only a bit of transfer/smudging in my inner corner, tear duct area.

I also did a smudge test with the swatch I did on my forearm.

This is what happened when I wiped my thumb across the swatch immediately after applying it to my arm:

Then I swiped across the swatch again after a couple of minutes.  You can see that more of the swatch did stay in place and after seeing really no smudging after seven hours on my eyes, I would say that you just need to give this product a bit of time to set and dry on your eye.  This is a good thing if you want to use the smudger at the end of the eyeliner tube to smudge it out before it dries.

Would I Purchase this Product Again?:

I would not repurchase this particular color {the sparkly, Starlit Black} simply because sparkly eyeliner isn’t my thing.  However, if I ever come across the other colors in this line, I would certainly be interested in trying them out given how well this one performed!

Where to Buy this Product:

According to Rimmel’s website, you can purchase this at Walmart, Walgreens, Target, CVS, Meijer, RiteAid, Kmart, and Ulta.  However, like I said above, I went searching for this eyeliner in the black and/or nude option at my local Walmart and Walgreens and could not find it.  Also, upon checking Ulta’s website, I found the product, but the colors were named differently than what was on Rimmel’s website.

I did, however, find this Starlit Black option on Amazon here for $12.50.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and review.  Leave me a comment with what you think of this product, if you have used it.

I need this eye liner! I use the Covergirl one that’s similar to this one, but I’ve never seen one that comes with a built in sharpener!

Yes, that sharpener is nice to keep the liner to a good point.

I love the shimmer in this eye liner! I usually wear eye liner under my eyes for my day look, and on top of my eyes for night. This gives a little sparkle to your night look! Thanks for sharing!
