Pure & Essential Minerals Dead Sea Mud Mask Review {have I found a Glam Glow SuperMud dupe?}

I am a face mask junkie.  Some beauty lovers cannot get enough mascara.  Some have a collection of lippies, or blush.  I cannot get enough face masks.

There is something about knowing I am going to end my day relaxing with a face mask on that just calms me down instantly.  So, when I was given the opportunity to try Pure & Essential Mineral’s Dead Sea Mud Mask, I was all like, “Oh heck yes.”

I was even more excited when it came in and I instantly saw a resemblance to my beloved Glam Glow SuperMud Clearing Mask.  I have been on the hunt for something that I could use in place of Glam Glow because…girls, I’ll be real with you…it’s expensive.

Don’t get me wrong, Glam Glow is worth every penny, at least in my opinion, and I have repurchased it a few times already.  BUT, my husband {and pocketbook} would certainly appreciate it if I was able to get similar results with something a little less hefty in the price tag arena.  And given that I use my Glam Glow SuperMud Clearing Mask every other time I use a face mask {I have oily, acne-prone skin}, I use that small, little jar up quite quickly!  I try to use Glam Glow once per week and any other mask another day of the week.  Sometimes I will even sneak in a Glam Glow SuperMud Clearing Mask treatment TWICE per week.

Therefore, for the purposes of this review {and for my own sheer excitement}, I decided to put this Pure & Essential Minerals Dead Sea Mud Mask head to head with Glam Glow’s SuperMud Clearing Mask.  I put both on my face at the same time, half of my face with one, and half of my face with the other.

Now, let me first start by saying that although initially I thought I may have a Glam Glow SuperMud dupe on my hands, the Pure Dead Sea Mud Mask is not an exact dupe when looking at texture, consistency, or even smell.  BUT, in the end, I feel the results were very similar {if not exactly the same}, so in my book, I think I have a GlamGlow SuperMud Clearing Mask replacement!

Texture and Consistency

The Pure Dead Sea Mud Mask is better in texture than the Glam Glow, in my opinion.  The Glam Glow SuperMud Clearing Mask has these HUGE exfoliating “beads” that are almost useless because of their size and hard to wash off.  Whereas the Pure Dead Sea Mud Mask is smoother in feel and when you look at it closely, you can see that there are tiny exfoliating beads throughout the mask.  This made it much easier to massage {exfoliate} my skin with the mask as I washed it off.  However, the Pure Dead Sea Mud Mask is runnier than Glam Glow making it a little more messy to apply.

The Pure Dead Sea Mask has an almost minty smell to it and I definitely prefer that over Glam Glow’s black licorice smell.

After having the masks applied to my face, although it was easier to get the Glam Glow mask on thicker {given its thicker consistency}, both felt the same after the 5-10 minute mark.  In other words, my face felt the same tightness…..if you have ever used a drying mud mask, you know what I am talking about!

Upon massaging the masks into my skin while rinsing off {again, it was easier to do this part with the Pure Dead Sea Mud Mask since the exfoliators were itty bitty and the mask not as thickly dried/applied onto my face}, I discovered that both sides of my face felt smooth and incredible.  It was at that moment that I thought, “Yep, I have finally found my budget friendly Glam Glow replacement.”

When compared to the price tag of $69 for a 1.7 ounce jar of the Glam Glow SuperMud Clearing Mask {price from the Glam Glow website}, the Pure & Essentials Dead Sea Mud Mask wins out at $25 for a 6 ounce jar {price on Amazon as of today’s blog post date}

Glam Glow wins here.  The mask container itself is high class and super sturdy versus the plastic container the Pure & Essentials version comes in.  Plus, with the packaging the jar itself comes in, Glam Glow wins out in this category as well.  When you receive a Glam Glow mask, it is very well protected in the box so that it does not roll around as much during shipping.  The Pure & Essentials Mask arrived to me in a beat up box because it had been shipped loosely in a larger box without any other protection.  This also meant the mask was able to roll around causing a lot of product to get in the cap.  I highly, HIGHLY suggest you rinse out the cap upon arrival otherwise as soon as you go to close that jar the first time, you will have a mess on your hands {and face, and bathroom sink}.

    I’ve been hearing not so great reviews from women who have tried GlamGlow’s mask. I have dry skin so I have been afraid to use a mud mask or afraid to use it too often. But I’m using a Dead Sea Mud Soap for Dry Skin, and I love it. The essential oils in this mask sound great especially for skin like mine. Great review!

      Glam Glow has been my go-to mask for quite some time. But, I have oily, acne-prone skin! I could see how the Glam Glow would be too drying for someone with already dry skin. But, like I said in this review, I think this Pure & Essential Minerals mask will be taking over the spot of Glam Glow in my face mask routine! I am just loving it!

    I’m glad to see you like this one! I tried out a dead sea mask from the InstaNatural brand and i did not like it what so ever. I do really want to try the Glam Glow mask.

    Thanks for sharing

      To be honest, if you didn’t like one dead sea mask, I am wondering if you would even like the Glam Glow mask (and I would hate to see you spend all that money on it). Definitely try and get your hands on a sample of Glam Glow before buying the full size!

    I am on the look out for a dupe of the glamglow youth mud as I didnt find that the one in the white pot did anything for my skin. I would definitely try the cheaper version though.

      I have never tried Glam Glow’s Youth Mud! I have always been a Super Mud Clearing Mask girl…..until now 😉

    I’m a huge fan of face masks too, and this one is perfect for me. A big plus of looking like a creature when you have it on (for me it’s just a fun part of face masks =P ).

    Hey Jen, thanks for this post! I am obsessed with that GlamGlow mask but it’s quite pricey so I use min on occasion so that I wouldn’t have to replace it often. I will definitely try this Pure Essential one. I should have tried it when I got the chance… shucks! xx

      I just did the Pure & Essential Minerals one again last night and I am still loving it! And now I do not need to feel as bad doing the mud mask as often because it isn’t as pricey!

    This mask sounds awesome! I’ve only tried GlamGlow masks in the little deluxe sizes because the bigger sizes are pretty spendy, and I’ve loved them but haven’t wanted to spend that much money. I will definitely look into this mask! I really liked how you compared so many different aspects of the two masks; that was really helpful, so thank you!

    Hi Jen! Great review! Would you still choose Dead Sea mask over glamglow? I’m wondering because I will be purchasing one and I’m leaning towards Dead Sea after your blog post. I want it for a mask and spot treatment. Thanks!

      I have actually already moved the Dead Sea mask to above the GlamGlow option on my purchasing list….especially because of the price difference! Don’t get me wrong, I still love the GlamGlow mask, but I will probably save that for a wish list item when my husband asks, “What would you like for your birthday?” or some other special gifting occasion. Let me know how you like the Dead Sea mask!

    Is Pure face mask effective? Because I have blackhead city on my nose and has an ugly oily shine down the bridge of my nose. I’ve never used a face mask but everything else is useless. Please reply or notify your reply by email thanks!
