Makeup Project 10 Pan - Spring 2016

Why I’m Doing a Project 10 Pan:

The reason for starting a project 10 pan has to do with a recent move and home purchase. This past summer, my husband and I bought a house that needed a complete demo and renovation overhaul. Which is currently still in progress. Which means most of my makeup is being stored in boxes and we are nowhere near the point of starting the construction of the master bedroom, closet, or master bathroom. We are still cooking on a hot plate, so the kitchen is our number one priority right now. Therefore, I thought I would take this time and have a really good look at the makeup I already have, do some decluttering, some organizing, but also USE the products I have acquired over the past year or so. I have things I haven’t even tried yet, but when I bought them I just “had to have them”! Enter: Project 10 Pan.

The rules of a Project 10 Pan are pretty straight forward. But, of course, I decided to put my own SIMPLE twist and come up with a customized set of Project 10 Pan rules and they are as follows:

Rule #1 – Choose enough products (the “contenders”) so that an entire look can be completed

Rule #2 – A “no-buy” is in effect until a total of 10 items are used up and the project ends
Exception – monthly subscription boxes can continue and limited edition products can be purchased

Rule #3 – Multiple mascaras only count as finishing ONE item during the project
(anticipating the project to last at least two months at which time all open mascaras should be tossed anyways)

Rule #4 – Only makeup and nail polish to be included
(I’m pretty good at not hoarding any extra skin care or hair care products)

Rule #5 – Review Project Pan contender progress every two to three weeks

Rule #6 – At the end of the project (when 10 items have been used up) every contending item needs to either be: used up, tossed, given to a friend, or a reason must justify putting it back into the collection

Pretty simple, right? So which projects and I throwing into this Project 10 Pan, Spring 2016 edition and why did I choose them?

My Project 10 Pan Contenders:

Face Primers:

Mary Kay Oil Mattifier

I am really close to finishing this up, so that is why I am adding it to this Project 10 Pan.

CoverGirl truMagic Skin Perfector in 100

I bought this SO long ago, used it once, and hated it. So, I decided to throw it in this project to see if I could figure out a way to use it that would bring me to like it.

Eyelid Primers:

Benefit Stay Don’t Stray

This product, coupled with MicaBeauty Cosmetics Eye Primer (then set with powder) is my HOLY HOLY HOLY grail eye lid priming potion for oily lids. This tube of Benefit’s Stay Don’t Stray is just about used up and I have another one waiting in the wings.

Concealers:

Maybelline Age Rewind

This is one of those “YouTube made me buy it” products that I have in my collection. I liked it when I bought it, then it got buried. So, I am resurrecting it for this Project 10 Pan.

Powders:

Laura Mercier Universal Invisible Loose Setting Powder

This was a sample that I got in a subscription box. I use it to set my eye lid primers (as noted above), but I’m trying to use up loose powders in my collection right now since I prefer a pressed powder option.

Maybelline Dream Wonder

Another YouTube inspired purchase that I decided to stop using when I was ALMOST done with it.

Foundations:

Estee Lauder Double Wear

I guess I should start a “YouTube made me buy it Project 10 Pan” because this was a foundation I could not WAIT to get my hands on after seeing so many of my favorite YouTube channels rave over it. However, I bought it, realized I didn’t know how to properly apply a full-coverage foundation, and it ended up getting pushed to the back of my storage unit.

Bronzers:

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil

I got this in a “best of Too Faced” package and was just too intimidated to use it (I am a bronzing novice).

Blushes:

Tarte Muse Cheek Stain

I always thought I disliked cream products (for things like blush), so I wanted to put this Tarte cheek stain in my Project 10 Pan Project to see if I could change my mind…or confirm and be able to declutter a bit.

elf Candid Coral Blush

This is basically a gold metallic blush (I really don’t see any coral color payoff), so I thought I would try it again but look for different ways to use it.

Lancome Blush Subtil in Aplum

I have never dipped a brush into this blush, and it looked to compliment the other project contenders I had picked out, so it got thrown into the ring.

Eye Shadows:

Maybelline Expert Wear Quad in Designer Chocolates

Sigh…another YouTube inspired purchase. One that I used a couple times and then pushed to the back of my collection. Time to get some good use out of this baby!

Eye Liners:

(Black Option) Hard Candy Take Me Out Liner in Soy
(Black Option) Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Liner
(Black Option) MaryKay Eyeliner in Black
(Brown Option) Pacifica Natural Minerals Waterproof Liner in Fringe
(Brown Option) Julep Gel Eye Glider in Rich Brown
(Grey Option) Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Stag
(Colored Option) Loreal Silkissime Highlighter
(Colored Option) Maybelline Master Smoky in Smoldering Violet

When picking out eye liners, I tried to give myself a pen and gel-like formula in black, brown, and then a couple of different colored options. I opted for shorter pencils that I could try and get used up or those that seemed to be on their last leg.

Mascaras:

Rimmel Londen Lift Me Up Wonder’Lash
Smashbox Full Exposure
Urban Decay Perversion
NYX The Skinny Mascara
CoverGirl Clump Crusher

These are all the mascaras I have open as I start this project pan. I will continue to use them and these all will count as only one item completed. Like I mentioned above, I would anticipate the project to take a couple of months, so even if these were all brand new mascaras, I should toss them out right around that time anyways.

Eyebrow Products:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pencil in Medium Brown

This is a sample pencil I got in an subscription box, but I want to use it up as long as it is so close!

Lip Liners:

Bella Pierre Natural Lip Liner in No. 2
Bella Pierre Gel Lip Liner in No. 3 Cinnamon

Both of these lip liners were chosen as a compliment to the lipsticks, glosses, and balms I have picked out.

Lipsticks:

Noyah Deeply in Mauve
Urban Decay Naked

Both of these were samples I got in subscription boxes and I would like to get some use out of them so that I can really know if I should add the full-sized items to my collection.

Lip Glosses:

NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that along with this Project 10 Pan, I am decluttering my lip glosses. I had to choose between this NYX Creme Brulee and another gloss…they were ALMOST exactly the same, and I do like them both, but I decided this one could go and I wouldn’t repurchase (since I will just repurchase the other one I decided I liked just a smidge better). But, since there isn’t anything wrong with this lip gloss, I want to use it up and at least get my money’s worth!

Lip Balms:

Hempz Ultra Moisturizing Herbal Lip Balm

I got this SO long ago in a subscription box and even though I have used it pretty religiously for about the past year, I still have a ton left. I wanted to make a concerted effort to use the rest of this up.

Urban Decay All Nighter

This bottle is almost gone and I have another bottle ready to take its place!

I forgot about Project 10 Pan! I’m currently on a No-Buy myself until the end of the month, but I think the next time I do a No-Buy I might do a Project 10 Pan. Thanks for the idea! Also, I hope you like the Too Faced Chocolate Soliel Bronzer— I recently started using it and find it super natural!

I’m doing a project make a dent for the year – so similar, but not quite the same! I really haven’t been feeling it lately but you’ve inspired me to give it another go!
