Lauren B. Beauty Rodeo Drive and Gel-Like Top Coat || Swatch and Review

by

I have officially fallen in love……with a nail polish.  I had some doubts and concerns with the Lauren B. Beauty nail polish in Rodeo Drive when I first used it, but after pairing it with the brand’s Gel-Like Top Coat, I am not sure any other polish will ever compare for me again.

The Gel-Like Top Coat description:

laurenbbeauty-GelTopCoat-2

This crème de la crème gel-like top coat offers the long-lasting gleam of a salon gel manicure, without any dangerous exposure to UV light. It comes off with gentle, non-acetone nail polish remover, so there’s no need to dry out your fingertips either. The formula’s eco-friendly and free of harsh chemicals. Plus, it’s not too thick, so you really can’t mess it up. In other words, genius.

Formula and Application

This polish, in the color Rodeo Drive, is 5 free {no formaldehyde, DBP, toluene, formaldehyde resin, or camphor}.  Even without a top coat, the polish dries to a shiny finish.  The color is a beautifully bright {and sexy} red with hints of a pinky-magenta and Rodeo Drive is the perfect way to describe the hue of red, so nice job Lauren B. Beauty in naming this one!

My Thoughts in Lauren B. Beauty’s Rodeo Drive and Gel-Like Top Coat

The very first time I used my Lauren B. Beauty nail polish in Rodeo Drive, I was instantly impressed.  The polish went on like butter, so smooth and creamy.

I thought I had already found the most silky smooth polishes out there {as a self-proclaimed nail polish snob}, but I have definitely been missing out by not already having tried a Lauren B. Beauty nail polish.  I am not exaggerating when I say that my manicure ended up looking better {even though I polished my nails in the same manner as I always do} simply because of how easily this polish applied.  Also, I could have probably left the color alone after just one coat, as far as it being opaque, but out of habit I always do two coats.

However, that very first time I painted my nails with Rodeo Drive, I started to have doubts when my new miracle nail polish started chipping within less than 24 hours.  I had used my Julep Oxygen Smoothing Base Coat and Seche Vite top coat.  Needless to say, I was heartbroken.  After how easily it applied and how gorgeously smooth it looked on the nail, I was so sad that it had chipped so easily especially given the higher quality top and base coats I had used.

I decided not to give up completely, though, and reached out to Lauren B. Beauty just see if they had any insights.  This is the response I got back from Alyssa over at LBB after I sent an email asking about the chipping:

Our line was meant to be used collectively, with that in mind I can’t guarantee that the product will last the way it is meant to if you are mixing brands. Our polishes were meant to be used with our top coats, every brands formulations are different so I can’t speak to how long lasting their top coats will be. I would love for you to experience Lauren B. Beauty the way that it is intended to look and last so I would like to send you our Gel Like Top Coat.

I should also point out that Alyssa responded almost immediately to my email message, so that was extremely appreciated!  But, I understood what she had responded with, that brands are formulated to work together, and was somewhat expecting that answer.

I also couldn’t believe the company was so very kind and offered to send me a bottle of their Gel-Like Top Coat to try out to really see how the Rodeo Drive nail polish would perform.  I certainly wasn’t looking for anything from them, I really did just want to make sure I wasn’t missing anything in making this nail polish be my new holy grail of polishes {which it now is, by the way}.

Oh, and it is totally worth mentioning the package itself when the top coat arrived.  Not only was everything beautifully packaged, there was a hand-written thank you note inside.  As a small business owner myself, and as I do it with my own invitation shipments, I completely appreciate the time it can take to include such personable touches.  Even if I didn’t like this nail polish, I would seriously consider continuing to purchase the products simply to support such a lovely company!

It turns out that what I was missing to make the Rodeo Drive polish really work was the top coat.  You guys, seriously, I didn’t think I could be even more jaw-dropping impressed with this nail polish, but after using it with their top coat, my jaw literally dropped.

The Long Lasting Test Results

My manicure lasted five days before I had even the most miniscule chip {I still used my Julep Oxygen Smooth Base Coat}.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me post this picture.  It is a terribly lit and a poorly composed photo, and I am rather embarrassed by the quality {given my photography hobby}, but it was one of those pictures I had to snap with my phone before heading out the door as I just wanted to make sure to document the proof at how amazingly the nail polish was lasting.

I did get to thinking, though, “What if this was a fluke and I was just relatively easy on my nails the past few days?”  So, I took the polish off and repainted exactly the same way.  Guess what?  It lasted just as long and I was almost making a conscious decision to put my nails to the test during the week just to really push the chipping limits.

Then my mind really got to thinking……and wondering how this Gel-Like Top Coat would perform when used with other brands of polish.

I know, I was just told by their company that polishes are formulated to work together within each brand.  But the top coat was so wonderful as well, I wanted to see if I could turn it into my new go-to top coat.  I was pleasantly surprised when my $1 Wet N Wild nail polish lasted almost the whole week {and I normally do not use this polish because it usually doesn’t last for me, I just wanted to put the Lauren B. Beauty Gel-Like Top Coat to the test, for Simple Nails and Beauty research purposes 🙂 }.

Oh, and I should also mention that when I was painting my nails with the Rodeo Drive and then used the Gel-Like Top Coat, my husband even commented saying, “Ooooh, that makes your nails look really shiny.”  If my husband is noticing the shine enough, and enough to actually say something out loud about it, you know it is good stuff!  I also received a lot of compliments on the color itself, especially at my friend’s birthday party a few weekends ago, so that told me how much of a stunner the color really is.

Not everything in life is perfect, though.  When I did go to take the nail polish off, it did stain my nails red.  I have had this happen with a ton of other red {and other dark colored} polishes, though, so I do not necessarily believe this is a Lauren B. Beauty formulation issue as much as it is just a thing that tends to happen with red nail polish and I would still 100% recommend Rodeo Drive.

I also want to emphasize that although Lauren B. Beauty sent me the Gel-Like Top Coat to try out {I purchased the Rodeo Drive polish on my own}, I was not compensated in any way to write this review and my opinions were not influenced in any way.  I actually went into doing this review, and giving the nail polish a second try, a little skeptical as I mentioned above.  So that probably made my review senses a little more critical than they would have been otherwise.  Therefore, to still be so extremely happy and pleased with the product should say something!

Where you Can Buy it

Now, Lauren B. Beauty Nail Polishes are definitely an investment.  Given that it is $18+ for the Rodeo Drive Nail Polish and $28 for the Gel-Like Top Coat, I am hoping my review will help you feel confident that what you are investing in are high quality nail polishes.  You can buy the Rodeo Drive Nail Polish on Amazon or the Lauren B. Beauty website.  Same with the Gel-Like Top Coat.  Find it here on Amazon and here on the Lauren B. Beauty website.

Seriously, if I won the lottery, the very first thing I would do would be to buy every single Lauren B. Beauty nail polish.  But, given the fact that right now my husband and I are saving to adopt a baby {you can read more about my personal story here}, I will just have to add my favorite colors to my wish list.  My husband knows how much I am drooling over all of them, so he has already given me “the wink” that I will see more of Lauren B. Beauty nail polishes in future gift baskets.  Christmas cannot come soon enough!

Speaking of wish lists…..if you guys do a lot of online shopping, I highly recommend using WishPot.com to save your favorite items onto a wish list.  If you use Google Chrome as your web browser {like I do}, you can add an extension app to the browser window so that you then have a little Wish Pot button that can be clicked and then whatever product’s page you are on will be added to your wish list.  My hubby has a link to my wish list and knows that I am eyeing that Calabasas Cash nail polish more than anything else since it is an emerald color which is the birthstone of our baby boy that passed away in May {in other words: if he doesn’t get it for me, I will find a way to get it for myself!!}

PS, I am not affiliated in any way with Wish Pot {in fact they have no idea I am writing about them or that I am such a fan}, I just find it to be a super useful tool for saving a list of products that I want to get someday!  And better yet, it is free to use!

This polish is beautiful. Probably too much for me to spend, especially since my nails are nubs.

Great review! I’m not the best at doing my own nails but when I’m in a pinch for time and budget its a must. This is a great way to look good and to keep it looking fresh for longer! Gel nail polish does last longer and finding the right brand is key.

I’ve been testing out gel like nail polishes too. This is probably out of my price range, but the packaging sure is pretty, so I’ll keep it in mind for a future test.
