Essie Bridal Collection 2015 Swatches and Review

by

If you have followed me for even a short bit of time, or have read my About Me page, you know that my current career is designing beautiful wedding stationery for beautiful couples all over the world.  That is why I get even more excited about a new nail polish or beauty collection when it is wedding specific!

When I saw this year’s Bridal Collection by Essie at my local Walgreens, I almost just dumped the entire display into my cart!  However, I have learned that I do not NEED every new color of nail polish just because it is new.  So I took a great deal of time really looking at every color that was released and deciding whether or not to add it to my own collection.

There are six new colors to choose from in this Bridal Collection:

I decided that for my personal collection, I was going to buy Tying the Knotie, Worth the Wait, and Brides no Grooms.  I didn’t go with Hubby for Dessert because in person, it seemed REALLY close in color to Tying the Knotie.  I didn’t snag the Brides to Be color as I knew I had literally just purchased a similar color from a different brand.  For me, Happy Wife, Happy Life was just too much on the orange side of orangish-red and not something I typically wear {as I do not think it looks good with my skin tone}.

I was most excited about trying Worth the Wait {the peachy shade}.  It is so gorgeous in the bottle!

I will say that although I did end up liking all three colors that I chose, I did not like how many coats I had to do in order to get them opaque.  They were fairly sheer upon application!  I needed four {yes, four} coats of both the Tying the Knotie and Worth the Wait to get an opaque finish.  When I wore the Brides no Grooms polish, I only did two coats….it wasn’t opaque, and I did wish that I had done just one more coat, but it looked okay anyways.

Tip of the Day – Had I used a white base coat prior to applying the colors, I would have needed less coats and the colors would have popped more.  For review purposes, though, I like to use the polish alone.  Read my past post on the benefits of using a white base coat to make your nail polishes pop!

Once I had done those four coats and had achieved that candy coating level, all I can say is OMG in regards to the finish.  For the light pink and peach shade, it literally looked like I had taken a piece of a satin dress in those colors and applied it to my nails.  The darker pink polish wasn’t quite as satin-y in its finish, but I did like the shade.

And that’s right, I feel like this shade of pink is nothing like I already have…every shade of pink really is different….and Brides no Grooms is SO different than anything else in my collection {unless you ask my husband, he feels I have about fifty bottles of this same pink polish already floating around the house}.

The wear on these was pretty typical for me with an Essie polish.  I used my favorite Nail Tek ridge filler as my base coat and Seche Vite as my top coat.  I kept all three on for about five days before I was saying hello to the acetone and goodbye to my manicure!

While I was wearing the peach shade (Worth the Wait), I also realized how incredible it would look with a little metallic gold striping on my accent nail.  I achieved the following look with this clear Metallic Gold Stripe nail wrap.  I mean, how perfect would this manicure be for you OR your bridesmaids??

Would I recommend this collection to you?  Solely based on the finish of the light pink and peach shades, I would recommend picking those two up at minimum {with the caveat that in order to get an opaque, candy coating finish with the polish on its own, you are going to need quite a few coats or to use a white polish as a base coat first}.  The dark pink shade that I wore wasn’t quite as impressive in the finish category as the other two, but it is a color I am happy to have added to my collection.  And the lasting power of the three shades I tried was very decent.

One other aspect I am missing from this collection is a mini set that includes ALL of the colors.  I know that in previous years, the bridal collection Essie released only had four new colors versus having six this year.  But, the only sets that have mini polishes in it for this collection, that I can find, are at Nordstroms.  You can choose from Lovely Sheers or Romantic Brights.  The Sheers set includes the light pink and peach color plus a base coat, top coat, and white polish.  The Romantic Brights set has the light purple color and the darker pink shade plus the base coat, top coat, and white polish.

Have you tried the Essie Bridal Collection for 2015?  Which shade is your favorite or which one do I still need to go out and buy?

Wow, those colors are so pretty! I really appreciate all of your swatches. Sometimes it’s hard to tell by looking at the bottle exactly what it will look like on your nails. And I think that Jamberry wrap looks so perfect with that color! Great choices.

Those colors are SO PRETTY!! I love the soft colors in this collection. 😀 I think my favorite is Worth the Wait. Man, I need to buy some of those stripe tapes so I can add that little pop of something to my nails really easily. I love it! Btw, you have beautiful nails, my dear! 😀

Aw, thanks Katie! And once you try the clear wraps (that you can apply on top of your favorite polish color), you will be hooked!
